NVZ Advice and Record Keeping

In response to the NVZ regulations and record keeping load for farmers we offer farm specific advice and record keeping services. We can provide you with all the required advice and paperwork in one place and make the necessary ongoing updates as easy as possible.   A consultant will come out to your farm, discuss how the rules impact on your business and put together a package of records that not only meet NVZ requirements but also help you make best use of manures and as a consequence save money. Our record keeping format has been subject to and passed several Environment Agency inspections.

Grassland Derogation

Following DEFRA ’s successful request for a derogation from the 170kgN/ha/yr limit earlier this year grassland farmers of grazing livestock are able to apply up to 250kgN/ha/yr if they submit a successful application each year and meet the following conditions:

  • At least 80% of farm land as grassland
  • Submit an annual application
  • Create nitrogen and phosphate plans for each field
  • Keep certain records - some to be submitted to the Environment Agency
  • After ploughing up grassland establish a high nitrogen requirement crop
  • Not plough certain soils at certain times of year
  • Not plough grass if it has had manure spread on it between specific dates
  • Maintain up to date individual field analysis
  • Do not include leguminous crops or other nitrogen fixing crops in rotations (except grass with less than 50% clover).

For the full information please refer to the Environment Agency Derogation Web page and the DEFRA Leaflet 5A. To apply for the derogation contact the Environment Agency on 0845 603 3113 or apply via the Whole Farm Approach Website.
